Job Description:

The Quality Laboratory Technician is primarily responsible for performing all laboratory testing, including but not limited to micro, analytical and environmental. Responsible for maintaining records according to established standards.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct laboratory equipment calibrations and calibration checks. 
  • Monitor temperature, humidity, cleaning, and preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Conduct sampling of all raw materials, finish products, including powders and shea butters. 
  • Conduct analytical testing to in-process batches.
  • Conduct microbiological testing to finished products (including aloe powders and shea butter).
  • Conduct HPLC analysis.
  • Conduct IR analysis to raw materials.
  • Maintain finish product storage, retains system. 
  • Maintain raw material storage / log system.
  • Maintain adequate laboratory supplies, order and stock.
  • Maintain laboratory environment: including clean and maintain work area, load and unload. washer, keep environment clean and ready for use.
  • Operate laboratory autoclave.
  • Conduct conductivity testing to RO water system.
  • Maintain agar and broth supply for microbiology.
  • Conduct environmental sampling and testing of water, manufacturing and packaging rooms.
  • Data entry.
  • Document review (such as receiving documentation).
  • Support with customer complaints testing and investigations.
  • Support with customer product recertification process.
  • Prepare specialty customer samples.
  • Follow all company safety and security procedures.
  • Use and wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work.
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist with gathering information for audits/inspections.
  • Maintain laboratory database, create analysis, reports and spreadsheets.
  • Maintain finished product label system.
  • Maintain accurate filing of all laboratory records.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB DUTIES:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of chemistry including common laboratory procedures such as chromatography, chemicals separation, and analytical and microbiological analyses.
  • Proficient in basic analytical techniques and skills required for the preparation of samples for analysis.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
  • Ability to execute technically sound experiments and to gather, analyze and present data, conclusions and recommendations in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to interface at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong written communication skills and ability to accurately convey results in lab reports.
  • Strong self-initiative and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient typing skills and computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and email.
  • Proficient analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Strong work ethic, customer service orientation and passion for accuracy.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as cross functionally with various departments and disciplines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with positive can-do attitude, ability to work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM JOB DUTIES:

  • Verbal communication and auditory skills for effective interactions.
  • Employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to use a computer.
  • Ability to see/read details at close range (within a few feet)
  • Use general office equipment including a soft telephone, copier, and facsimile.
  • Sit/remain seated for up to 3 hours at a time.
  • Stand/remain standing for entire shift, up to 4 hours at a time.
  • Ability to walk/move around frequently between lab, offices, and warehouse.
  • Manual dexterity to grasp and use laboratory equipment such as volumetric pipettes, flasks, gas burners, microscopes, analytical balances, titrations, etc.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB DUTIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or other scientific discipline.
  • 0-3 years of experience in laboratory testing.
