A global oilfield services company leverages our Agile services to expand its geosteering application.


Our client, one of the world's largest oilfield service companies, was tasked with accelerating the development of their proprietary geosteering drilling application to deliver enhanced reservoir understanding for their customers. This solution is an LWD (logging while drilling) software that renders a 3D reservoir simulation in real-time. The application is a highly technical, revenue-driving piece of the client’s proprietary technology stack and there were ongoing issues of quality and limited collaboration from the existing system integrator partners. Our client needed a partner to accelerate Agile software development to meet their backlog of enhancements and new features needed to deliver greater value to their customers.


The Apex team worked within the client’s Agile and Lean framework to provide 100% onsite full stack software delivery following a two-week iteration schedule. We captured deliverables in Azure Dev Ops (ADO), to ensure seamless delivery and collaboration. Apex leveraged an iterative approach in our software development to promote velocity and adaptability. This allowed release benefits throughout the process rather than a single release only at the end of the development lifecycle.

Three years of service delivery within budget to enhance and expand client's geosteering capabilities

We prepared the Epics/Features/Stories for ADO, relying on client input and oversight accordingly. The Apex team refined in-scope use cases, functional flows, technical flows and related data requirements. At the core, the Agile delivery method for the project provided an immediate feedback loop to receive customer feedback and share the accomplishments of each iteration. Apex provided engagement management oversight at no additional cost to ensure quality and accountability of our performance, resulting in better Sprint velocity and increased speed to market of features and enhancements.


Over the course of three years, our team has provided high-quality deliverables for customer-facing and internal-facing enhancements and features for this geosteering application at or under budget. Our onsite engagement delivery model allowed for greater collaboration and participation in all Scrum team ceremonies, leading to more team empowerment and engagement.
