Business Analyst Lead

Job#: 3038069

Job Description:

Business Analyst Lead (Domain BA Lead)

Role Summary

The Domain BA Lead is responsible for leading business analysis delivery within a specific domain pod (AML, Tax, Small Products, or Big Products/Regulatory) across the FIRST & Connex Technology regulatory portfolio. This is a player/coach role — combining hands-on BA/BSA delivery with coaching, mentoring, and domain leadership. The BA Lead ensures high-quality requirements, aligned execution, and consistent practices within their pod while actively contributing to delivery.

Key Accountabilities

1. Domain BA Leadership & Coaching

  • Lead, coach, and mentor BA Consultants within the assigned pod, providing guidance on analysis approaches, deliverables, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Provide day-to-day oversight of BA work within the pod, including structuring work packages, assigning responsibilities, and ensuring timely delivery.
  • Review and validate requirements documentation (e.g., business requirements, user stories, data requirements) to ensure quality, completeness, and alignment to business needs.
  • Support BA development through feedback, capability building, and best practice sharing, fostering a high-performing team within the domain.
  • Act as a player/coach — balancing hands-on delivery responsibilities with leadership and coaching of junior BAs.

2. Domain Expertise & Delivery

  • Serve as the domain subject matter expert within the assigned pod, bringing deep knowledge of the regulatory/product area (e.g., AML, Tax, or Product Regulations).
  • Execute end-to-end business analysis as needed — including business discovery, process mapping, BRD development, and technical translation.
  • Ensure the pod delivers structured, high-quality requirements aligned to regulatory and business outcomes.
  • Drive discovery quality by modeling best practices for junior BAs and embedding consistent approaches across the pod.

3. Requirements Governance & Quality Assurance

  • Establish and enforce requirements management standards within the pod, ensuring alignment with BMO BA CoE / CIOE practices.
  • Ensure requirements are clearly articulated, traceable, testable, and aligned to business outcomes.
  • Ensure requirements are reviewed, approved, and signed off by relevant stakeholders.
  • Act as escalation point for requirements-related issues within the pod, resolving blockers and ensuring progress.
  • Drive consistency in documentation, modeling, and validation practices across pod initiatives.

4. Agile Delivery & Execution Oversight

  • Provide leadership across the end-to-end requirements lifecycle within the pod (intake, elicitation, analysis, refinement, delivery, validation).
  • Ensure BAs effectively support delivery through user story development, backlog refinement, clear acceptance criteria, and Definition of Ready/Done.
  • Work closely with Product Owners, PMs, and Technology teams to ensure alignment between requirements and delivery execution.

5. Data, Insights & Strategic Support

  • Lead and guide BAs in performing data analysis, trend identification, and insight generation to support pod-level decision-making.
  • Ensure analytics and reporting requirements are well-defined and aligned to business KPIs.
  • Support strategic initiatives by contributing to roadmaps, sequencing, and prioritization within the domain.
  • Provide impact analysis and business case inputs as needed.

6. Continuous Improvement

  • Drive continuous improvement in requirements practices, tools, and delivery efficiency within the pod.
  • Enable and promote AI-assisted requirements practices (e.g., automation of documentation, analysis acceleration, quality checks).
  • Promote knowledge sharing and reuse across the pod and broader portfolio.

7. Stakeholder Engagement & Influence

  • Build strong relationships with business, technology, and regulatory stakeholders within the domain.
  • Act as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert on domain-specific requirements and analysis practices.
  • Facilitate workshops and discussions to align stakeholders on problem definition, requirements, and solutions.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in Business Analysis, with demonstrated hybrid BA/BSA capability and domain delivery leadership.
  • Proven experience coaching, mentoring, and guiding junior BAs in a player/coach capacity.
  • Strong understanding of Agile and SDLC methodologies, including backlog management and requirements lifecycle.
  • Deep expertise in requirements elicitation, analysis, documentation, and validation.
  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills, with the ability to derive actionable insights.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders.
  • Experience driving best practice adoption and capability uplift within a team.
  • Domain expertise in one or more of: AML, KYC, Tax/FATCA, CRS, Financial Crime, or Product Regulations (strongly preferred).
  • Experience delivering regulatory programs in banking.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance, audit, and reporting requirements, including control design and traceability.
  • Experience working across complex, multi-stream regulatory portfolios with cross-functional dependencies and strict timelines.
  • BMO experience is a strong plus.
