System Test Engineer, Airport Security Screening Systems

Location: Tewksbury, MA (Onsite)

 

Role Overview

We are seeking a System Test Engineer to support the testing and validation of airport checkpoint screening systems. This role will help ensure that checkpoint systems, subsystems, software, hardware, and integrated workflows meet functional, performance, reliability, and operational requirements. The role involves hands-on testing in a system test lab and integration environment, working with airport checkpoint screening equipment, test workstations, software applications, and related system components.

 

Key Responsibilities
  • Support hands-on testing in a system test lab and integration test environment.
  • Work with airport checkpoint screening equipment, test workstations, and software applications.
  • Follow detailed test procedures and accurately document results.
  • Troubleshoot issues and work with both Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Operate and monitor test equipment, set up test scenarios, and handle test articles.
  • Ensure systems meet functional, performance, reliability, and operational requirements.
  • Perform periodic lifting and movement of test articles, such as bags weighing approximately 20 pounds.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience in system testing, integration testing, verification and validation, or related engineering test activities.
  • Experience testing integrated hardware/software systems or complex electromechanical systems.
  • Working knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Ability to perform basic OS-level troubleshooting, including checking system status, collecting logs, verifying configuration, and identifying abnormal system behavior.
  • Ability to execute detailed test procedures and accurately document results.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work hands-on with test equipment, system components, and operational test setups.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with engineering, quality, operations, and program personnel.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and work within controlled test environments.
  • Ability to lift and move test articles, including bags typically weighing approximately 20 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience testing airport checkpoint, security screening, detection, imaging, scanning, or transportation security systems.
  • Experience with Linux command line, Windows system tools, system logs, services, drivers, or software installation.
  • Experience with defect tracking tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira or similar systems.
  • Experience reviewing requirements and mapping test cases to system requirements.
  • Familiarity with networking basics, including IP configuration, connectivity checks, and device communication troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with test equipment, data collection tools, logs, and system diagnostic utilities.
  • Experience supporting formal test events, customer demonstrations, acceptance testing, or qualification testing.
  • Basic understanding of software, hardware, sensors, imaging systems, or electromechanical system operation.
Work Environment

This role will include work in a system test lab and integration test environment with airport checkpoint screening systems. The environment is indoors and controlled. Responsibilities may include operating and monitoring test equipment, setting up test scenarios, handling test articles such as bags, and performing hands-on system testing. Most time will be spent in the lab environment.
