A healthcare provider implements a comprehensive data analytics and business intelligence platform to streamline self-service reporting capabilities.

SITUATION

Our client, a large regional healthcare provider, wanted to establish a consolidated, comprehensive, and flexible data foundation in order to improve efficiency and allow business self-service for reporting and analytics. By executing this project, the client would empower their business leaders with the information needed to make informed and timely decisions. The client funded a five-year program to provide a unified view of data through the construction of a data warehouse, including collecting business intelligence and analytical models. The objective of the first year was to select the necessary tools and technologies to support the creation of this data warehouse.

SOLUTION

Apex partnered with the client to provide technical data analysis and project/program management resources for the duration of the program. This included creating a five-year roadmap of the data conversion and migration and working with business and IT leadership on the data governance, technical, and operational support models. In addition, we established a training program for the BI reporting tool. Our technical and program management team also provided:

Completed 24K migrations in eight months across 30 hospitals and 270 ambulatory locations

  • Technical data profiling and support to data architects for modeling the warehouse
  • Technical specifications (ETL requirements) for data engineers
  • Support for test scenarios for unit and user acceptance testing and performed full system testing
  • Status and budget reporting at the project and program level including weekly status reporting and periodic enterprise leadership meetings and reporting
  • Coordination to support data governance and training

RESULT

We created a comprehensive secure data warehouse with business self-supported reporting and analytical capabilities to effectively measure, manage and predict future costs and risk. It was designed to extensively support new sources of data including clinical exchange/lab data and integrated medical management programs. The data warehouse mitigated compliance risks associated with manual processes and positioned the client to decommission legacy, siloed reporting products and data repositories.
