Title: Network Engineer

Location: San Antonio, Texas

Schedule: Onsite 2 days/remote 3 days per week - Monday through Friday standard 8am-5pm

Job Overview:

Responsible for Operations Network Support – script development, device configuration management, system administration, hardware support, software support, maintenance, security, troubleshooting. Responsible for solution design, development, integration and enhancements to meet the business needs and project requirements. Also, responsible for documenting and developing operational procedures and provides end user support.

 

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures monitoring network engineering performance and system availability and reliability
  • Leads junior team members in the configurations and installs of various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS)
  • Leads the performance of highly complex network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes and security configurations
  • Monitors performance and ensure system availability and reliability
  • Monitor system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning
  • Provide mentoring and technical support of junior team members
  • Reviews all system-related security plans throughout the organizations corporate network.
  • Monitors compliance with information security policies and procedures, referring problems to the appropriate department manager or business area.
  • Supports the security incident response process.
  • Provides input in selection of system software & hardware, with emphasis on security and compliance requirements.
  • Provides incident and problem resolution.
  • Assists in the support and development of security deliverables for enhancements to production systems and new development.
  • Assists in the implementation of ongoing improvements to security configurations and operating procedures.
  • Works within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure
  • Selects and implements security tools, policies, and procedures in conjunction with the company’s security team using wide latitude for independent judgement.
  • Acts as the primary liaison with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Business Computer Systems, Management Information Systems or related field from an accredited university OR Relative experience in system management for network engineering.
  • Demonstrated Associate level experience with Network Engineering
  • Experience with networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, MPLS, EIGRP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS)
  • Solid knowledge of OSI or TCP/IP models
  • Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and network analytics tools
  • Experience with network, micro segmentation and load balancing in cloud environments
  • Proven experience with Cisco ACI, VMWare NSX or Cisco Nexus Data Center technologies
  • Experience as a Network Administrator in a field supporting critical systems and providing technical solutions.
  • Ability to conduct vulnerability scans and recognize vulnerabilities in information systems
  • Ability to apply techniques for detecting host and network-based intrusions using various detection technologies
  • Ability to interpret the information collected by network tools
  • Ability to accurately and completely source all data used in intelligence, assessment and or planning products
  • Ability to design incident response for cybersecurity incidents not covered by existing plans or procedures
  • Associate level networking certification (CCNA, F5 CA, VMware VCA)

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relative experience in supporting utility construction & maintenance.
  • Professional level networking certification (CCNP, CCDP, F5-CTS, VMware VCP, VMware VCAP)
  • Capable of detecting host and network-based intrusions using various detection technologies
  • Cisco ACI, VMWare, or Cisco Nexus experience
  • Experience with networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, MPLS, EIGRP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS)
