Senior Business Systems Analyst (Asset Management)

Apex Systems is a global IT services provider and our staffing practice has an opening for a Senior Business Systems Analyst with domain experience in Asset Management, working with business Product Owner and Technology stakeholders to define technology backlogs, Power BI, SQL Queries, and knowledge of Agile SDLC cycle place at our client, a top Financial Institution. 

Terms: 6-month rolling contract (Multi-year Program)

Location: Downtown Toronto (currently 2 days onsite work required)

As part of our clients ambition to becoming a Digital First organization, Asset Management is undergoing a transformation to modernize our digital capabilities and engagement. The BSA role would become an integral part of the newly established Asset Management Digital Technology Team. This persistent team would focus on driving key innovation and digital initiatives in an agile iterative environment, delivering new and updated “products” faster to market, reducing delays by empowering teams, simplifying decision making, facilitating quick adoption, reducing manual processes, and increasing automation.  Working closely with Business Product Owner, the BSA role would liaise with stakeholders to understand problems and opportunities and, to recommend solutions to enable the achievement of organizational goals.  The BSA would build exceptional relationships with other business partners and internal stakeholders, ensuring the requirements map to a real business need, are approved by all relevant stakeholders, and meet essential quality standards. BSA would actively participate in reviews or inspections, in collaboration with the agile team to ensure the quality of work products. This individual will be a key member of the agile persistent development team and will work closely with Asset Management stakeholders to understand their business needs and goals.


Responsibilities:

  • Develop plans and accurate estimates for completion of requirements, continuously improving the level of detail and accuracy of estimates
  • Lead business requirement elicitation sessions with stakeholders to document high and detailed level business systems requirements specifications
  • Define, document and translate business requirements into detailed functional specifications, taking into account non-functional requirements
  • Build and maintain a repository of reusable requirements documentation to support future initiatives, following the enterprise standards
  • Responsible for creating, refining, and maintaining user stories with an emphasis on defining business value and acceptance criteria
  • Work closely with the Product Owner on the prioritization of the product backlog
  • Contribute to project management activities such as: scoping and estimating project efforts, identifying key risks and recommending mitigation measures, communicating activity status, as well as escalating and communicating possible issues.
  • Assist testing teams in translating requirements and use cases into test conditions and expected results for product, performance, user acceptance, and operational acceptance testing
  • Respect existing processes and standards including requirements management and project management disciplines, technology delivery and business technology architecture, escalating issues as needed
  • Support the development of the end-user documentation and training
  • Manage risks, assumptions, and constraints for requirements, and communicate to appropriate parties
  • Participate in agile development activities and all agile ceremonies

Key Qualifications:

  • 8+ years’ working experience as a Business Systems Analyst in financial services / wealth management / investment management / capital markets industries, with progressively increasing responsibilities in the areas of requirements management on large and complex transformational projects that involved company website overhauls (including both marketing and product pages), continuous website enhancements and 3rd party data integrations
  • Knowledge of the mutual fund and exchange-traded fund products and associated marketing and distribution channels, workflows and dataflows, including 3rd party mutual fund and ETF data aggregators.  
  • Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or equivalent
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills, with proven ability to work well with developers, architects, testers and business partners
  • Experience in requirements planning and prioritization, including stakeholder analysis and effort estimation and requirements elicitation techniques such as Document analysis, facilitated workshops
  • Requirements analysis and documentation such as Scope Modelling, Business Process Modelling, Use Cases and Scenarios, Data mapping specifications
  • Requirements management and communication – requirements walkthroughs; scope and change management; traceability; configuration management, Backlog Management
  • Experience working in an agile environment
  • Proficient with Epics, user stories, Scrum, Kanban, retrospectives, team planning and other related Agile techniques.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using Jira and Confluence, or any other agile software
  • Ability to read and understand data file definitions (XML)
  • Advanced MS Excel, PowerBI, PowerPoint and Visio skills
  • Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) or Masters Certificate in Business Analysis
  • SDLC, AGILE, DevOps, Waterfall and other software development lifecycle frameworks
