A Fortune 500 gas and utility company uses Apex’s solution to assist in their enterprise-wide digital transformation, within a tight timeframe.

SITUATION

Our client, a Fortune 500 gas and electric utility, required a partner to assist their digital transformation efforts by insourcing a previously outsourced Enterprise Network Communication Services organization. The goal was to evolve their structure to build a resilient and secure utility-grade carrier and provide dedicated bandwidth for critical grid communications. Previously, the client had outsourced this capability to a third party, but a transformational change in their IT delivery model was necessary to support a massive investment in a Grid & Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) modernization effort. Our client had an aggressive timeline to insource this operation, and their internal HR department and Contingent Labor Program could not effectively support the volume of work within the given timeline.

Met aggressive SLAs with network, architecture, and PMO resources

SOLUTION

Upon award, our engagement team traveled to the client’s site for planning sessions related to schedule and resource planning, competencies, requirements, salary mapping, and technical environment knowledge transfer.

We leveraged the Elite Qualification Program and our technical SMEs to screen all consultants using customized assessments to ensure skills validation. The results of the evaluation process were documented and visible to the client. The client relied on our engagement team to select consultants, which improved efficiencies and delivered increased speed to market. Additionally, we owned the complete onboarding process, including equipment distribution, badging, and orientation. Our engagement team remained onsite throughout the project, handling day-to-day performance management and other operational matters, enabling high-touch collaboration with client managers, evaluating consultant performance, and preparing consultants to convert to full-time employees.

RESULTS

We successfully sourced, screened, and identified each consultant within 10 days of a role being released, meeting our client’s aggressive time to fill SLA. We successfully delivered all 54 required contract-to-hire roles, with all on track to convert to full-time employees after working on the project for 6 months. Our client was pleased with our services and our ability to provide the technical capacity required to help build the digital grid of the future.
